Adult Vaccination Programmes — Eligibility & How to Get Them

This page explains the main adult vaccines offered on the NHS, who is eligible for them, and how to book or get invited to have them.

💉 Seasonal & Routine Adult Vaccines

🦠 1. Flu Vaccine (Seasonal)

Who is eligible?

You can get a free annual NHS flu vaccine if you:

  • Are aged 65 or over (including those who will be 65 by 31 March 2026)

  • Have certain long-term health conditions

  • Are pregnant

  • Live in a care home

  • Are a carer or receive a carer’s allowance

  • Live with someone who has a weakened immune system

🦠 2. COVID-19 Vaccine

Who is eligible?

Current NHS eligibility for the Spring 2026 COVID-19 vaccine includes:

  • Adults aged 75 and over

  • Residents of care homes for older adults

  • People 6 months and over with a weakened immune system

GP surgery appointment, pharmacy (where available), NHS App booking or call 119.


🧬 3. Pneumococcal Vaccine

Who is eligible?

  • Adults aged 65 and over

  • Adults aged 18 + with certain long-term medical conditions (e.g., chronic heart, lung, liver or kidney disease; diabetes; immunosuppression)

📍 How to get it:
Contact your GP surgery to book.


🦠 4. Shingles Vaccine

Who is eligible?

You can get a free NHS shingles vaccine if you:

  • Are 65 to 79 years old

  • Are aged 18 + with a severely weakened immune system

Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox and can lead to long-lasting nerve pain.

📍 How to get it:
Contact your GP surgery to arrange your two doses.


🫁 5. RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) Vaccine

Who is eligible?

You can have a free NHS RSV vaccine if you:

  • Are 28 weeks pregnant or more

  • Are aged 75 to 79, or turned 80 on or after 1 September 2024

This vaccine helps protect against serious RSV respiratory infections.

Your GP surgery will contact you when you are eligible. You can also ask your GP directly if you haven’t been contacted.

📍 How to Book or Get Invited

  • GP Surgery Invitation: Many eligible patients will receive direct invites (letters, texts or calls).

  • Book Online: Use the NHS App or NHS booking services.

  • Phone: Call 119 to book flu, COVID-19 or RSV vaccinations.

  • Pharmacy: Some vaccines (e.g., flu, RSV in some areas) can be booked at participating pharmacies.
